Mission Statement

The mission of the Insurance Fraud Prevention Division is to confront the problem of insurance fraud in Nebraska by prevention, investigation, and prosecution of fraudulent insurance acts in an effort to reduce the amount of premium dollars used to pay fraudulent claims.


What is Insurance Fraud?

Insurance fraud is any deliberate deception perpetrated for the purpose of unwarranted gain.  It occurs during the process of buying, selling, using and underwriting insurance.


Mandatory Reporting of Suspected Fraudulent Insurance Acts.

Neb.Rev.Stat. §44-393, provides that "[e]very insurance company, agent, solicitor, or broker, and every person or party having knowledge of violation of any of the provisions of this chapter, is required to promptly report the facts and circumstances pertaining thereto to the Department of Insurance." (See Immunity Statute §44-6605).
