This update was special this year, as it was our first statewide update. Volunteers came from as far as Scottsbluff, Norfolk, and North Platte. The update gave everyone an opportunity to meet volunteers from other cities and communities throughout Nebraska.
Fifty NICA Volunteers and Regional Representatives along with thirty-five guests attended the NICA Update on October 25th. The NICA Volunteers, their guests, and over two hundred Hastings residents then attended the Medicare and You Day on October 26th. The NICA update invited speakers Randy Musselman from the Long-Term Care Ombudsman's office and Lark Ferguson from the Sunderbruch Corporation - Nebraska. They both gave excellent presentations.
Other information presented included Medicare updates and new information on Sterling's Private Fee-for-Service. There was also plenty of time for questions and answers.
Those who attended were asked to attend the Volunteer Recognition Dinner that was catered by the Garden Cafe. The dinner is the NICA Program's way of thanking the Volunteers for the work that they have done in the past year. In addition to dinner, all of the volunteers who attended received a clock in appreciation for their volunteer work.
Many of the volunteers indicated they enjoyed the change in the update format and liked being able to meet so many other volunteers. However, many volunteers also indicated that they like the smaller updates. Next year we will return to our traditional updates and lunches. It is our plan to have statewide updates every other year. Thank you for your suggestions and thank you for all of your work.
