Record #56 2/00 (J Barry): Client couldn't understand why insurance company hadn't paid. Volunteer discovered part of non-payment was due to $100.00 deductible. Volunteer showed client why she still owed $41.05 and she said she would pay. (Time=1hour; $=$0; Satisfied=unk)

As part of the Part B medical expenses, which includes doctors' services, in-patient and outpatient medical and surgical services and supplies, physical, occupational and speech therapy, diagnostic tests, and durable medical equipment, the Medicare beneficiary must pay a $100 deductible once per calendar year.

Record #8 (Grand Island) 3/00 (N Havranek): Client was in the midst of changing his Medicare Supplement policy and also buying Long Term Care insurance. NICA volunteer reviewed both policies. By switching Medicare Supplement insurance companies, client saved $40 per month. Volunteer noticed a discrepancy in the daily amount of the Long Term Care policy. Client was going to bring this to the attention of the agent. Volunteer said to call if client needed anything further. (Time=.75hour; $=$480; Satisfied=yes)

Record WCNAA, 3/00 (R Kamino): Client questioned whether oxygen company was charging Medicare the approved amount and asked Volunteer to assist in researching this matter. (Time = ½ hour; $=$0; Satisfied=unk)

NICA Volunteer found that the oxygen company was charging Medicare the appropriate amount, but that the oxygen company also charged a maintenance fee on the machine that makes the oxygen.
