THE NEBRASKA HEALTH INSURANCE INFORMATION, COUNSELING,
AND ASSISTANCE (NICA) PROGRAM
MARCH 2001 NICA NEWS
GREETINGS
NICA has just completed the spring update trainings. A portion of the training was spent on gathering feedback and comments from the volunteers. I wanted to hear suggestions and ideas on how to improve the NICA Program. One of the suggestions was to create a database or a reference sheet for all of the newsletters. This was a great idea! Another idea was to repeat the Medicare Minutes. The Medicare Minutes are informational statements that can be read to a senior center during the lunch hour. They are popular because they only take a minute or two to read. Volunteers have enjoyed using the Medicare Minutes as a way to reach out to others in their community. Rebecca Hasty, NICA Program Specialist, is currently working on making these suggestions become a reality. You should see the results by the next newsletter.
The spring update also focused on Medicare and Medicaid Fraud and Abuse. Speakers from the Empowering Consumers of Health Organizations (ECHO) presented a two-hour informational session on Fraud and Abuse. I have heard a lot of positive comments on the topic as well as the speakers. I want to thank all of the NICA Volunteers that took the time to attend this update training.
Please check out page 20 for the dates, times and locations of the next training on new reporting forms.
