SEPTEMBER 2001 NICA NEWS

GREETINGS

The training for the new reporting forms is now complete. Many NICA Volunteers were able to attend the training in person. Those volunteers that were not able to be present at the trainings were sent a packet of information on the new reporting forms and asked to acknowledge that they reviewed the materials. Still other volunteers received personal one-on-one training from their NICA Regional Representative. I want to thank all of the volunteers who took the time to attend the new reporting form training.

I am happy to report that NICA Volunteers are now using the new reporting forms. The NICA Program Office has received many of the new contact forms and a few outreach forms. Thank you for taking the time to complete the forms.

I also wanted to mention an outreach project that the NICA Program Office is working on completing. During this last summer, we sent out letters to all senior centers and assisted living facilities in Nebraska. We asked if they would like to order, free of charge, a bag of Medicare information for their residents or for those that they deliver hot meals to during the week. The bag is a plastic litterbag with the NICA 800 number printed on the front. Inside of the bag we have stuffed it full of Medicare information, a magnet and a magnifier. The magnifier was a special gift from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Kansas City Office. We received about 8,000 orders for the bags of information!

There is more information about this project on page page 10 of this NICA News.
