VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHTS
Charlotte Erickson
NICA Volunteer Charlotte Erickson of Holdrege has been publishing Medicare related articles in the monthly newsletter of the independent senior retirement community where she works for over 9 months. The information in the newsletters reaches all of the Medicare beneficiaries in the complex.
Leonard Finnegan
Leonard Finnegan, a NICA volunteer from Omaha, set up a booth at Highland Tower in South Omaha, to provide information and counseling on Medicare and Medicare Supplement Insurance.
Bill Hamilton & Joyce Mack
NICA Volunteers Bill Hamilton and Joyce Mack staffed an educational booth at Omaha's Corrigan Senior Center on almost every Monday in February, March, April and May. The two Omaha volunteers provided information and counseling to beneficiaries on Medicare, Medicare Supplement Insurance, prescription drug assistance programs, and many other related topics.
Dennis Kamprath
Dennis Kamprath, a new NICA Volunteer trained in May of 2003, helped educate the Grand Island area about the Medicare Stop Smoking Program. In June, Dennis placed posters to promote enrollment in the program in the Grand Island Hospital and a Senior Center.
Sunny Kontor
Sunny Kontor set up educational booths at the Friend Health Fair and at the Crete Health Fair. The two outreach efforts were very successful -- providing information and counseling to an audience of more than 770 beneficiaries on Medicare, Medicare Supplement Insurance, and the Medicare Stop Smoking Program.
Laura Kruse
Laura Kruse provided informational brochures on Medicare for display at the South Sioux Community Center in South Sioux City and the Department of Health & Human Services in Dakota City. These displays were established in May and June, and will be updated and available continuously at the two locations.
Judy Lutz
NICA Volunteer Judy Lutz of Parks, Nebraska, spoke to 30 Medicare beneficiaries at the Benkelman Senior Center. Her presentation in February focused on informing the beneficiaries about a Medicare telephone scam.
Linda Maly
Linda Maly, a new NICA Volunteer from Weston, spoke to a total of 115 Medicare beneficiaries, family members and professionals at the Haven House, the Department of Health & Human Services office, and at the Saunders County Care Center in Wahoo. Her presentations discussed Medicare, Medicare Supplement Insurance, Medicaid and Long Term Care Insurance. Linda also left Medicare informational brochures at the Saunders House Assisted Living in Wahoo for the Medicare beneficiaries.
Robert Martin
One of Omaha's dedicated NICA Volunteers, Robert Martin, set up a booth at the Firefighters Union Hall for the Health & Wellness Benefit. The booth provided information on Medicare, Medicare Supplement Insurance, prescription drug assistance programs, and Long Term Care Insurance to beneficiaries, family members, and professionals.
Jayne Prince
Jayne Prince spoke to a total of over 300 Medicare beneficiaries, traveling to Tilden, Schuyler, Hadar, South Sioux City, Valentine, Ainsworth, O'Neill, Wayne, Randolph, and Bassett. Jayne, a NICA Volunteer from Norfolk, gave presentations and information about Medicare fraud and abuse.
Cindy Schurr
Another new NICA Volunteer off to a great start is Cindy Schurr of Eustis. Cindy spoke to over 30 Medicare beneficiaries at the Eustis Senior Center regarding the NICA program.
Betty Schuster
Eddyville's local NICA Volunteer, Betty Schuster, gave a presentation in June to twelve Area Agency on Aging staff in Kearney. Betty spoke for over an hour on the Medicare program.
Betty Stiles
The first Monday of each month, Betty Stiles has been available at the Beatrice Senior Center to answer questions from Medicare beneficiaries regarding Medicare, Medicare Supplement Insurance, and Medicaid. She also attended the open house at the new Social Security District Office in Beatrice and talked to an employee regarding the NICA program.
Pat Wilcox
Pat Wilcox set up a booth at the Family First Festival in Blair. Pat's information reached 250 Medicare beneficiaries and family members. This active NICA Volunteer from Omaha also gave a presentation to 45 Medicare beneficiaries at the Heartland Senior Center in Omaha providing information on Medicare fraud and abuse.
Dorothy Williamson
NICA Volunteer Dorothy Williamson, a new volunteer from Red Cloud, gave a presentation about the NICA program to 15 Medicare beneficiaries in Bladen.
Ongoing Dedication
