DECEMBER 1998 NICA NEWS

VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHTS

Give a hand to Ray Herbert. Ray became a NICA Volunteer July 2, 1998. Ray has not missed a month doing volunteer counseling, outreach or sending in his paperwork. Thank you, Ray!

Visually Impaired Conference

Volunteer Bill Grimes arranged for the NICA Program Office to be the keynote speaker at the annual Visually Impaired Conference in Columbus, NE on September 2, 1998. Volunteer Jan Olsten was able to join NICA Program Specialist Carla Zinn during the presentation. Jan brought her NICA business cards and was able to make contact with many individuals.

Carla presented information on the NICA Program, Medicare and other health insurance issues. After a great lunch, the afternoon session was devoted to questions and answers. Both Carla and Jan answered some tough questions from the 100+ individuals in attendance.

Thank you, Bill, for arranging the engagement, and thank you, Carla and Jan, for attending, presenting and answering questions.

Feel Better Soon

We wish to extend "Get Well Soon" thoughts to NICA volunteer Les Weber. Les recently suffered a heart attack. He is at home recuperating.

Volunteer Mabel Gordon assisted Carla Zinn with a luncheon speaking engagement in Fairbury, NE on October 15, 1998. The speech was given to the local 55+ organization at the Fairbury Health Center. Twenty-five people attended the luncheon and presentation. The speech took place at the Fairbury Health Center. NICA was asked to discuss the NICA Program and the new changes in Medicare.

Carla and Mabel were both able to assist the attendees with their individual questions after the meeting. By the way, Mabel wore her NICA T-shirt, awarded to her after being a NICA volunteer for five years. What a great idea Mabel!

The NICA Program Office and the NICA Volunteers extend congratulations to Judy Watters. Judy was married on August 14, 1998. She will go by the name Judy Lutz.

The NICA Program Office and the NICA Volunteers wish to bestow best wishes for years of happiness to Regional Representative, Mary Buford. Mary was married on September 19, 1998. She will go by Mary Wilson; however, the phones will still be answered as Buford Law Office.
