Record #37(Bertrand) 6/99 (Volunteer J. Meyer): Client had gone to Mayo Clinic and Clinic didn't submit the Medicare claims. Volunteer helped him sort out the claims and make several telephone calls during three different appointments. (Time=4hours; $=1400; Satisfied=Yes)
As a NICA Volunteer, we can offer assistance in reviewing and sorting clients' bills and claims. Clients appreciate this valuable, free service from our trained volunteers.

Record #28(Aurora) 8/99 (Volunteer B. Graham): Client has macular degenerative eye disease and can't read his mail, so he stops in at the senior center and a NICA Volunteer goes over his bills with him. (Time=1hour; $=0; Satisfied=unk)
NICA Volunteers are great !

Record #14(Hastings) 8/99 (Volunteer N. Havranek): Husband and wife clients turned 65 and were looking at several medigap policies and wanted volunteer's advice. He had an interest in the $1500 deductible plan to save money. Volunteer explained to them that if they wanted to take a policy that would pay better after a few years, they would run into underwriting. This gave them second thoughts. This couple was using good judgment in looking at several medigap policies and comparing the plans. NICA Volunteers can discuss the medigap plans A-J and provide beneficiaries with a rate guide to compare premiums. The additional information the Volunteer gave helped the couple to make better informed decisions.
